Volunteer spirit soar with Michigan Indian kids!

Shriya Shah gives back to the local Michigan community by donating 10 inches of her beautiful locks to the "Wigs 4 Kids"

Wigs 4 Kids is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that reaches out to kids and young adults with hair loss. This program is available to any child or teen through age 18 in Michigan.

Wigs 4 Kids main focus is on cancer patients and includes other young people with similar appearance related challenges that cause hair loss such as:, alopecia, trichotillomania, lupus, hydrocephalus, burns and other disorders.

Volunteers at the Gleaners Food Bank

Local Kids participate in Gleaners Food Bank Drive

In the spirit of giving and helping those in need, a group of local Indian Kids participated in a local food drive held at the local Detroit distribution center under the Kids Helping Kids program of the Gleaners Food Bank. Under the youth coordinator Ayushi Jain, the group learnt about Gleaners,toured the food bank and participated in Empty Bowls Ceramics Project.

As one of the oldest food banks in the United States, Gleaners Community Food Bank's mission is to turn surplus food, which otherwise would go to waste, into millions of nutritious meals for hungry people in southeastern Michigan. For more than 32 years, Gleaners has been "nourishing communities by feeding hungry people".

Local talents support Spread International Annual Fundraising Event

The annual Spread International Event was celebrated on June 5th , 2010 at St Toma Church in Farmington Hills Michigan, suburb of Detroit city.

The fund raising event is attended by 200 guests with families. The program started with children performing dances. Rohit Goru  played solo violin for telugu devotional and minuet. Smt Jayalakshmi, eminent Kuchipudi dancer and Nandi Award winner for Swarabhishekam movie enthralled the audiences with Kuchipudi dances. Her daughters Swetha and Sruthi Haridasu entertained the audiences with elegant Kuchipudi and folk dances.

Avinash Rachmale, Chairman & CEO Lakeshore Engineering Services was the chief guest for event. He was awarded the 2009 National Champion Award for Entrepreneurial Success by President Barack Obama. Lakeshore Engineering Services is a leading engineering constructions and consultancy companies with $150 million annual revenues based in Detroit. Avinash truly lived American Dream with rags to riches storyline.

Vandana Krishnaswami Dance Teacher and choreographer worked hard for a quality program with 2 group dances. Rani and Nishant Alluri presented a dance performance drawing deafening applause from audience.

The main event started at 7:30 PM with lighting the lamp and devotional song by Sruthi Haridasu, and Detroit local kids. President, Sridhar Patel, thanked all the guests for attending the event and for their support, guest speakers, event coordination team members for their efforts for putting together the event, and executive team members, coordinators, and volunteers for their efforts in educating poor kids. He gave an updates on organization activities, students successes.

 
MetLife South Asian Spelling Bee

On Jun 19 & 20, MetLife South Asian Spelling Bee conducted the LA and Bay Area regionals where over 120 spellers participated for the chance to win prizes and qualify for the finals. We want to share with you pictures videos and also the written test that was given this past weekend.

About KISHANGANJ,BIHAR

A Muslim majority district, Kishanganj is situated in the North East part of Bihar, bordering West Bengal, Bangladesh and Nepal.

During the period of Khagada Nawab, Mohammed Fakiruddin, one hindu saint arrived, he was tired and wanted to rest at this place, but when he heard that this place name is Alamganj, the river name is Ramzan and the Jamindar name is Fakiruddin, he refused to enter at Alamganj.

After that the Nawab decided and announced some portion from Kishanganj Gudri to Ramzan pool gandhi ghat as Krishna Kunj. As time passed by the name gets converted to present KISHANGANJ

The Ramzan river crosses through the middle of the town, which adds more attraction to the beauty of the city.
