The Council of Asian Pacific Americans (CAPA) will host a statewide leadership conference on Saturday, October 23rd, 2010, focusing on building bridges and fostering growth between the Asian Pacific American community and other organizations with the goal of bringing about positive social change.
The eighth annual Asian Pacific American Leadership Summit will be held from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM at the Novi Community Center – 45175 West 10 Mile Road, Novi, MI.
The 2010 Leadership Summit will open with remarks by Novi Mayor David Landry followed by keynote speeches be given by U.S. Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow.
Topics covered in the summit workshops will include Jobs/Economy, Immigration and Mentoring/Resources.
“Our 2010 Statewide Asian and Pacific American Leadership Summit will be a great opportunity for Asian leaders from across Michigan to come face-to-face, network, build awareness and collaborate”, said Mumtaz Haque, CAPA President.
India League of America in collaboration with the various Michigan Indian community organization organized India Day 2010 to commemorate India's 64 years of Independence. This mega event attracted tens of thousands of people to the event who experienced authentic Indian food, music, dances, ethnic arts and artifacts. India Day 2010 was made possible by India Day sponsors, donors, vendors and volunteers who worked endless hours to make the event possible.
The Punjabi Sports and Cultural Association (PSCA) of Michigan hosted its 3rd Khed Mela on July 10th 2010 at Independence Park in Canton.
This event began after the ardas at 7AM followed by a fun filled day with many activities for all. Free lunch with jalebies, pakodas and tea was served to all the guests. Many booths for gol gappe, papdi chaat , bhel puri were also in place. Frozen snacks and ice-cream trucks were readily available for this summer outing!
Fruits and snacks for the kids were also available.
The main highlight of the event were the various sports events that were organized throughout the day. Professional kabbadi teams from as far as Canada and mid-western states competed against each other.Well known commentator Sukhcahin Brar did the commentary for kabaddi matches. Many Soccer and Volleyball teams also played against each other as the enthusiastic crowds cheered.
Cultural programs like gidda and bhangra kept the visitors entertained as did the singers Geeta Zaildar and Baljit Malwa. Music & sound for the show was provided by DJ TIGER and pictures by TIGER PRODUCTIONS (www.DjTiger.com)
ISCKON Rath Yatra in Detroit 2010
On Saturday, July 24, 2010, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON)of Detroit presented their 25th annual Rath Yatra (Festival of the Chariots) parade down the major streets of Novi. The procession began promptly at 11:00 am from the Novi Civic Center. Following the 3 mile parade, a grand celebration awaited the crowd, including an exhibition showcasing India´s spirituality and culture.
The festival site featured 20-plus tents with various forms of entertainment, a FREE lunch, dancing, live music, shopping, henna, Vedic culture and arts, and many more kid activities. Visitors were delighted with an event filled with colorful floats, traditional costumes, Hindu rituals, unique music, and dramas. The whole family event helped the everyone enjoy and explore the unique cultural, educational displays and exhibitions, as well as a COMPLIMENTARY feast, revealing the spiritual heart of India.
Replications of this festival take place all over the world, including in London , New York City, Los Angeles and Toronto . Over one million people participate in this thousands year-old Indian celebration.ISKON Rath Yatra was a great opportunity to learn about the fascinating culture of India and commemoration of ancient Indian tradition that welcomed everyone.

Anand Bazaar, Troy 2010
The Bharatiya Temple of Troy celebrated its annual fun-filled family event Anand Bazaar on August 1st, 2010.
This carnival style extravaganza included many entertaining cultural events, sumptuous food and delicacies from many Indian restaurants around the local Detroit area. Many local vendors participated in this much awaited event where both adults and kids enjoyed shopping for items of clothing, jewelry, music, movies and many souvenirs.
One of the unique attractions this year in Anand Bazaar was Table Tennis exhibition games organized by the Temple Table Tennis Club. The club showcased their new team building and sportsmanship talent by inviting local Michigan Table Tennis champions to the event.
“Anand Bazaar is the best. We can’t wait for it to come back next summer!” was the common consensus amongst all.

A Muslim majority district, Kishanganj is situated in the North East part of Bihar, bordering West Bengal, Bangladesh and Nepal.
During the period of Khagada Nawab, Mohammed Fakiruddin, one hindu saint arrived, he was tired and wanted to rest at this place, but when he heard that this place name is Alamganj, the river name is Ramzan and the Jamindar name is Fakiruddin, he refused to enter at Alamganj.
After that the Nawab decided and announced some portion from Kishanganj Gudri to Ramzan pool gandhi ghat as Krishna Kunj. As time passed by the name gets converted to present KISHANGANJ
