Talented and beautiful NRI on a roll in Telugu Film Industry!
Richa Gangopadhyay recently won the Superhit Most Talented Debutante of the Year-2010 award in a gala event held in Hyderabad which was attended by the ‘Who’s Who’ in Telugu Film Industry! Richa portrays the classic success story of an NRI who won Miss India USA in 2007 as well as Miss Photogenic and Beautiful Eyes in the Miss India Worldwide in 2008, and came down to India to realize her acting dreams. Even though she is based in Mumbai, she is on the roll in Tollywood with a bag full of accomplishments others crave for. In just one year, in 2010 this talented and beautiful lass completed three big-banner Telugu movies with ace heroes like Venkatesh, Rana and Ravi Teja. All three movies have been declared super box-office hits!
After getting her acting diploma from Anupam Kher’s Actor Prepares, Richa had a ‘dream launch’ of sorts in Tollywood with critically acclaimed Director, Sekhar Kamulla opposite Rana Dagubatti, the grandson of legendary movie producer and recent Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner, D. Rama Naidu. As the film Leader went on to become the biggest blockbuster movie of the year 2010, audiences and critics were mesmerized by this impressive NRI, who made an impactful entry with her role as an individualistic journalist.
Next, she bagged the protagonist’s role in recently the most talked-about movie, Nagavalli which is the remake of the Kannada blockbuster Aptarakshaka by veteran director, P. Vasu. The film starred leading actors Venkatesh and Anushka as well. Richa silenced all the critics who thought she may not sustain beyond her first movie, Leader by giving a mind-blowing performance as the possessed Nagavalli. Many compared her robust performance to Jyothika in the Tamil version, Chandramukhi, and to Vidya Balan in Bhool Bhulaiya. For a new actress to deliver such a hard-core performance exceeded everyone’s expectations. Richa’s biggest assets are her large, expressive and beautiful eyes that can tell thousand stories.
Most recently she starred in a totally different role of an innocent and gullible traditional Telugu Brahmin college girl in the Ravi Teja mass-entertainer, Mirapakya which juxtaposed her character in both traditional and utterly glamorous versions. Richa’s natural dancing talent and bubbly self is showcased beautifully in the songs and dances of Mirapkaya, which has already been declared the super-hit movie of the season, now making record collections in the box-office.
Richa’s aspiration was to play three different characters at the onset of her career not only to explore which genre she is most comfortable with, but to also sense what the audiences like most. Richa’s fan and reviewer mail is jam-packed with tremendously positive response she is receiving for all three roles. Apart from doing three movies in one year, Richa has been seen as one of the busiest person or ‘talk-of-the-town’ in media and community events. She has come to be known as a very suave, intelligent and media-savvy person who speaks effortlessly, yet genuinely. Richa has also carved a special place in the Telugu Film industry as an actress who does not let competition take away the fun of acting. Her interviews have unveiled a charismatic, confident and mature personality for whom quality is more important than quantity of films. Her personal goal is to explore a wide variety of roles in a wide variety of languages both in India and abroad. “Last year was been a living lesson in life for me. I have learned so much. I am very thankful for the opportunities I have gotten thus far where I could prove my talent and get noticed. But there is lot more to explore and lot more for me to prove.” says a hopeful and twinkle-eyed Richa.
