Bihar connection in the upcoming UP election
Patna/ Lucknow: Beaten down to dust in Bihar, former union minister and a key player of dalit politics, Ramvilas Paswan is quite keen to take on the might of UP’s Chief Minister Mayawati. Mr. Paswan is not lone Bihari stalwart to fight election in UP. Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and former chief minister Lalu Prasad are also keen to gain some ground in UP. Ramvilas Paswan is the chief LokJanshakti Party which intends to field 288 candidates in UP Assembly election. Though he wishes to tie up with the Congress and the RJD along with Left parties to dislodge Nitish Kumar government, he has decided to all alone in UP.
The assembly elections 2012 in UP will be held in 7 phases with the final vote counting on Tuesday, 03-06-2012.
Political observers point out that even Ramvilas is aware that the winnibility of his party candidates quite grim, he has decided to field so many candidates to put himself as some sort of alternative dalit leader not only in UP but also in India.
Ramvilas says that Mayawati had hurt the Dalits and the LJP would fight for the cause of the Dalits allegedly suffering under BSP’s government.
It is interesting to recall that Mayawati too had fielded BSP’s candidates in Bihar Assembly elections and during Lalu-Rabri regime got some success too but they were won over by Lalu’s RJD party.
During Assembly elections of 2010 Mayawati led BSP fielded its candidates on most of the seats where Paswan’s LJP had good chance to win.
And it is not only Assembly election even during the 2009 general election BSP fielded Mr. Salim Parwez against Lalu Prasad. Though Lalu won that election but Mr. Salim too got around 15 thousand votes. Lalu was too nervous at that time and had fought a second seat from Patna which he eventually lost.
It is interesting to note that all the votes that may be garnered by Ramvilas’s candidates would be a dent into Mayawati’s base vote. Naturally it would be sweet revenge for Ramvilas and it would provide him to get inside applause from Congress.
Thought BJP is fighting a tough war to get back into government in UP, its coalition leader in Bihar, JDU is too going alone in a state where Mulayam Singh Yadav’s led Samajwadi Party seems to be marching ahead.
Nitish Kumar is on ‘Sewa Yatra’ and his schedule of travel seems to be have been chalked out keeping the UP election in mind. Nitish is travelling in Siwan which is situated at the border of UP.
Nitish Kumar’s party JDU is enjoying power with BJP in Bihar but the chemistry seems to be different in UP. Nitish says that it was not necessary that we have alliance with BJP everywhere and in each election. Our party will contest election alone.
Though Lalu Prasad seems to be down and out in Bihar but to keep himself and his party warmed up they are getting ready to take part in UP election. But this time Lalu is quite watchful. He says that his party’s UP unit would decide to contest the election there and the number of seats.
Whether RJD, LJP or JDU wins any seat or not but it would be very interesting to see how they play spoilsport.
