State Senator Hoon-Yung Hopgood (D-8), Dr. Syed Taj (Canton Township Trustee), Kevin Ketels (Grosse Pointe Woods City Councilman), and others will speak on the panel about the challenges and triumphs of running for and serving elected office in Michigan as Asian Americans. Celebrate the launch of APIAVote-Michigan’s 2012 activities. This presidential election year, APIAVote-Michigan will register 2000 voters. We need your help! Learn how you can get involved and hear about voter education & mobilization plans, Asian American Community Needs
Assessment Project, the Youth Leadership Corps’ Immigration Stories Project, and advocacy efforts.

7:15-8:15 p.m. New Faces of Leadership Panel
Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-CA), chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), is the keynote speaker. Congresswoman Chu will talk about her experiences as the first Chinese American woman elected to the United States Congress and about the myriad of issues facing Asian Americans which CAPAC seeks to address.
