'My Plate' replaces the USDA Food Pyramid

in Blog

The two decade old symbol of healthy eating - the food pyramid has been replced by the US Agricultural Department's new icon 'My Plate'

Reason for the change: USDA called the pyramid overly complex, trying to communicate too much information to its readers, often confusing them. 'My Plate' is brought in to offer a more simplistic approach to nutrition. An artistic, colorful plate is appealing to the eyes and easy to relate to. The plate has been divided into 4 sections - namely fruits, vegetables, protein and grains. Categories like "meats and beans" has been consolidated to a single protein group. All references to sugars, fats, and oils has been eliminated. Next to the plate is a blue circle for dairy, which could include a glass of milk, cheese or yogurt.

Ahead of popular yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s highly publicised indefinite fast to demand an end to corruption and black money, it’s not just the government which is worried. Signs of uneasiness are clearly visible in the Anna Hazare camp too. Faced with a deadlock in the joint panel drafting the lokpal bill and prospects of Ramdev drawing huge crowds in his north Indian bastion, Hazare reached out to the yoga guru on Thursday in a bid to avoid being eclipsed by him.

The Gandhian spent the day in front of TV cameras, pledging support to Ramdev and dismissing talk of differences with him on proposed lokpal. “There are no differences between us and Swamiji (Ramdev). We completely support his movement and I’ll join him on Sunday for a few hours,” Hazare was quoted in a statement issued by the India Against Corruption outfit led by him.

Parents teach and influence children more through their actions than with their words and as they grow older, they follow in the footsteps of their parents. Leaders Inspire–Perspective on leadership style of M S Dhoni & Nitish Kumar

in Blog

It takes moment in life to make it special, dream of a generation, imagination of a nation, heartbeat of billions, and then the prayers finally were answered. India lifted the world cup 2011 with great pride and emotions. What Dhoni and his men have achieved will remain etched in the memory of our generation forever. Tears of joy, cries of triumph, and a sense of gratitude filled our hearts as the realization of world cup victory finally sinks to the nation.

Celebrations still continue and what really stood out was the cool and razor sharp finesse which Dhoni displayed in his leadership style throughout the tournament. Perhaps he summed it up himself when he said how his decisions could have been questioned. But as lady luck had it, Dhoni will smile all the way to the glorious annals of cricketing history, perhaps the most successful India captain ever.
