Lights. Dandias. ACTION: In 2002, a group of students, dedicated and enthusiastic about raas, began the Raas Association at the University of Michigan. This organization put on the first ever dandia Dhamaka (dD) competition. Dandia Dhamaka pioneered the intercollegiate raas competition. Since then, many other competitions have been created, but dD remains the largest and oldest. The upcoming 2012 show will be the 11th annual competition.

2012 North South Foundation Regional Contests - Online Registration begins for Michigan Chapter

New Year greetings from the North South Foundation! NSF will be conducting regional contests for Indian-American children this year at over 80 centers across US. These contests focus on the academic development of children starting from the Kindergarten through High school levels, enabling them to excel in their studies utilizing the full potential immersed in every child. The impact of NSF contests on children is evident from the fact that for the last four consecutive years, NSF kids have won the Scripps National Spelling Bee Championship. They have been winning top spots at many other national level competitions such as National Geographic Bee, MATHCOUNTS, Math Olympiad, Science Olympiad, Siemens and Intel Science competitions, Engineering fairs, and Brain Bee. Many Indian-American students admitted to top tier colleges such as Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Stanford and Columbia are also NSF kids.

Year 2011 will go down as a landmark year for Bihar. Having turned the wheels of development and progress in the last few years, 2011 saw consolidation of various initiatives and remarkable turnaround in the state. In 2010, Bihar emerged as a role model for electoral democracy when people unanimously voted for progress and prosperity, weeding out the shibboleths of vote bank politics.

Time magazine recently had an article on Bihar on “How Nitish Kumar Turned Bihar into a Model of Indian Reform”.Though the rest of the country saw challenges growth numbers dwindling due to slower reforms and lack of decision making, Bihar is on fast track growth track.
