Sher Shah Suri(1486-1545), the powerful emperor and the chief architect of the Suri Empire was born in Sasaram, Bihar. Sher Shah served as a private and then the governor of Bihar before establishing his rule as the Mughal Emperor who ruled Bihar , Bengal to Delhi in India.

A brilliant startegist, Sher Shah was a great administrator as well as general who laid foundations for the later Mughal Emperors like Akbar.

During his short reign from 1540-1545, Sher Shah set up a solid template for civic and military administration. He introduced Indian Currency as Rupiya, constructed roads, monuments and reorganized the postal sysytem in India amongst many things .

Sher Shah revived the historical city of Patna. A popular legend states how he famously tacked ana killed a full grown tiger with his bare hands!
